Why Differentiate?
|
As a teacher, why should I differentiate my classroom?
As you fill out the survey on the right, think about how your classes were while you were a child in school. Did you feel like there was open space for differences in learning styles? Skills? If you teach, how is your classroom right now? Do you feel that students of all levels are able to feel accomplished and have the ability to successfully learn the material? Unfortunately, too many students feel that their school or classroom is comparable to a processing plant, as displayed in the cartoon above. Who are the teachers teaching to? Is it only the middle level students? What if a specific student is more successful with visual aids, while for another it does not make a difference? Is that taken into account? If you are here researching this website for tools, YOU are a teacher who wants the best for their students. I think you will find the path of differentiation challenging, although very rewarding. It will make you even more successful at conveying the information to ALL your students. |
